Privileged material has no expiry date. A firm’s document systems, mail archives, and deal rooms hold client confidences expected to hold indefinitely. That makes harvest-now-decrypt-later a professional obligation question rather than only a technical one.
This is a working day, delivered privately. It covers the firm’s own migration and the harder question underneath it: what a firm owes clients on a subject the firm is expected to advise on.
Who this intensive is for
Firm CIOs and information security leads, general counsel and risk partners, knowledge management and document systems owners, and the practice leaders whose clients will start asking. Law firms, accounting firms, and advisory practices.
A risk partner in the room changes the day. The advisory duty question is a partnership decision, not an IT one.
What you’ll be able to do afterward
- Assess privilege and client confidentiality exposure across document systems, mail, and deal rooms
- Sequence migration for the systems holding the longest-lived material first
- Set a retention and re-encryption position for archives that cannot simply be migrated forward
- Evaluate the cryptographic posture of the third-party platforms the firm relies on
- Decide what the firm will tell clients about this subject, and when
- Assess whether advising on it creates an obligation to have addressed it internally
What you leave with
Every participant receives the course handbook, a PDF of the full material with the instructor notes written out, and a PDF copy of Quantum Ready. The day itself produces a privilege exposure assessment across firm systems, a migration sequence prioritized by confidentiality horizon, a third-party platform assessment covering the firm’s key vendors, and a draft client communication position. All are editable and yours to keep.
The day
Morning, first block. Where privilege applies. Document management, mail archives, deal rooms, and the shadow systems. Sizing the exposure honestly.
Morning, second block. The firm’s own migration. Sequencing by confidentiality horizon. Archives, retention, and re-encryption where forward migration is not enough.
Afternoon, first block. Third parties. The platforms the firm depends on, assessed rather than assumed.
Afternoon, second block. Duty and disclosure. What the firm tells clients and when. Assemble the plan and the position together.
Where this course fits
Quantum-Safe Legal and Professional Services is the prerequisite in substance rather than in rule. It covers the same ground at overview depth, and participants who arrive having taken it start the day with the vocabulary already shared. Afterward, Quantum-Safe Financial Services for firms whose clients sit in regulated finance, and PQC Migration: Building the Business Case for the partnership funding conversation.
Why we teach this
The day is built on the Applied Quantum PQC Migration Framework, published openly under Creative Commons at pqcframework.org, applied to this sector by instructors who run migration programs in it. No published sector extension exists for this industry yet. The sector material is the instructors’ own field work.
Certificate of Completion
Upon completion, you will receive a Quantum Academy certificate of completion. This is not a professional certification.
Enrollment includes 180 days of access to the corresponding online on-demand course. Where that course is not yet published, the 180 days start on the day it is.
