Marin Ivezic has spent three decades in cybersecurity, more than 25 years of it at the intersection of security and quantum technology. He was managing director of what was then one of the largest offensive security agencies dedicated to critical national infrastructure and defense systems. He has since served as interim CISO and CTO at multiple Fortune Global 500 organizations, and led cybersecurity and quantum technology practices at IBM, Accenture, PwC, and KPMG.
He spent much of that career in financial services. He has held CISO roles at global banks, and at Accenture and IBM he led regional and global practices in financial services security, financial crime, and regulatory readiness. Those programs answered to supervisors and boards, the same audience now asking institutions how they will replace their cryptography.
He is the founder of Applied Quantum, the first quantum-dedicated professional services and systems integration firm. He also founded Boston Photonics, a photonic quantum computing startup, PQ Defense, a quantum security firm, and Cryptosec.
He wrote the Applied Quantum PQC Migration Framework, published at pqcframework.org, a structured methodology for planning and executing post-quantum cryptography migrations. He co-wrote the Cryptographic Concentration Framework at ccframework.org, a method for measuring how far a single shared cryptographic dependency reaches beneath the vendor layer. Both use the Applied Quantum CBOM Profile at cbomprofile.org, the open CycloneDX property taxonomy for cryptographic bills of materials that he co-wrote. He wrote Quantum Ready and Quantum Systems Integration, co-wrote Quantum Sovereignty with Luka Ivezic, and he writes at PostQuantum.com.
In the mid-2000s he was a partner at Knowledge Age, an advisory firm working with governments on knowledge-based economies. Part of that work was designing national education programs for the emerging technologies of the day. Long before he became a SANS Institute instructor, he was teaching quantum computing to audiences outside cybersecurity, and he has lectured as a guest at universities around the world.
